Swinging with style: The Chandelier Earrings

As any fashionista can tell you, your jewelry collection is not considered complete unless it contains at least one dazzling and fashionable pair of chandelier earrings. By definition, a chandelier style earring means a long elaborate dangling earring, typically consisting of various tiers of gemstones, crystals, beads etc. From red carpet events to a night out on town, these long dangling earrings enamor everyone. These attention grabbing pieces dangle and sway from your ears, adding that extra drama and glamour to your look.

Made from a variety of materials, they can range from highly expensive and exclusive precious jewelry styles to affordable costume pieces for a trendy and current look. All age groups, making them an extremely versatile addition to your wardrobe, can also wear these earrings.

Historically, chandelier earrings closely resemble mini-chandeliers with a series of embellishments that drop down, sometimes cascading to different lengths, creating tiers. These tiers create movement and in many cases, create additional sparkle and shine.

These earrings have enjoyed a long history of being used as adornment, cultural identification and a sign of wealth and prosperity for thousands of years, dating back to 2500 B.C. According to legend, evil spirits were thought to be able to enter the body through any of its openings and take control. The first earrings were probably worn to bar away these spirits. Even though earring styles and popularity have fluctuated throughout time based on economic conditions, fashion and style influences and societal factors, they have always remained an important part of fashion.

Originating in Asia and the Middle East, Earrings were used as a simple way to determine the wearer's religious, political or tribal identity. Earrings were also an indicator of the individual's social status in the community and were considered a sign of wealth and prosperity. Among sailors, a pierced earlobe was a symbol that the wearer had sailed around the world or had crossed the equator. Earrings were also worn for acupuncture purposes, commonly believed to aid eyesight and hearing.

During the Roman Empire, wealthy women used earrings to show off their rich status. By the 2nd century A.D., gemstones such as sapphires, emeralds and aquamarines were used regularly in earring designs. By the middle of the 20th century, earrings of all shapes and sizes were popular, though there was a clear distinction between more conservative earrings worn during the day, and more glamorous earrings worn in the evenings. In the 1970′s, pierced earrings gained popularity and at the same time, styles merged and were no longer limited to either day or night wear.

Looking at the trends in 2016, many designers such as Alexander Mcqueen Dolce and Gabbana, Gucci and Celine have showcased massive chandelier earrings, some of them almost grazing the shoulder.

At Pookaari, we showcase a large collection of Chandelier earrings, by designers such as Raagini Mittal, Preeti Mohan, Vijayshree Sovani , Valliyan and Bbling to name a few.

Made in a wide variety or colors, materials, our carefully curated chandelier earrings make the perfect addition to any outfit and can be shopped in styles to fit any occasion. Take advantage of their multifunctional character by wearing them on special occasions for a more luxurious and chic look, or wear them in everyday life to bring some bohemian free-spirited touches to your outfit.

These Celebrities Show You How to Rock Your Accessories

I personally believe that accessories can actually make or break a look. Fashion accessories fall into 4 major categories – Jewellery, Bags, Scarves and other fun stuff like hats, sunglasses, ipad sleeves, belts et all. The best way to learn anything is to observe the well dressed women around us and take a leaf from their trend books. In today’s age of social media, this is very easy to do. There are so many celebrities out there from whom you can draw inspiration to stay fashionable. The celebrities who have had a huge impact on me as far as the way they accessorize are concerned, are  Olivia Palermo and Sonam Kapoor.

Olivia is by far the goddess of accessorizing. She has a distinct style and a very classic and modern character to the way she dresses and pairs her accessories. She would most likely wear a simple and elegant plain black dress. But what would make it look stunning is the way she wore a pair of tasseled shoulder grazing earrings with it and carried a stunning clutch. The entire outfit is complete with these two accessories – the statement earrings and the beautiful clutch. For casual day wear you would most likely find Olivia in a pair of trendy ripped jeans and a white shirt with a vivid scarf wrapped stylishly around her neck. What I particularly love about Olivia is her attention to detail. She would finish her casual look with a pair of a canary yellow loafers to lend the look some quirky edge. This is precisely why she stands out with her style and is so different.
I absolutely love Sonam for her fearlessness when it comes to fashion. I almost envy her for the way she experiments with different styles and looks. One moment she is wearing a traditional Anamika Khanna outfit with a bold statement necklace and at the other moment she is flaunting a dramatic couture evening gown by  Elie Saab. She is a fashion chameleon and this is what I admire about her style. There is never a dull and boring moment in Sonam Kapoor’s fashion life. I specifically like the fact that she has a penchant for accessorizing diffrerently. She is always almost seen in very edgy accessories even when she is wearing something traditional and conservative. She completely owns her looks. She wore a McQueen style dress at Cannes last year with a kundan nath which was truly original and bold. She is truly an inspiration for anyone who follows fashion and likes to keep up with trends.
Another cool thing about accessories is that you can safely experiment with different looks. If you’re aiming to try out a rocker chic look, you dont have to immediately dress in ripped jeans and biker jackets. You can instead shop for necklaces or earrings with spikes on them and wear with your pair of jeans and a shirt. This will give you an instant and yet subtle makeover. When you experiment with fashion you’ll learn what makes you look good and what doesn’t. This is the only way to really learn.

5 Jewellery Pieces Every Girl Must Get Her Hands On

The key to going from drab to fab is picking the right accessories. Here are the hottest pieces this summer.

1. Statement Necklace – Every girl must own a couple of statement neckpieces. An important rule to follow is to keep the earrings simple while wearing a statement necklace. So wear a pair of minimal studs in the same colour as the necklace that you’re wearing. Bold necklaces are very fashionable at the moment. Make a statement in the boardroom with a statement necklace paired with a white cotton shirt and trousers. A funky alternative is to wear a statement necklace with a sari for work. It will make a serious statement for sure. You could also explore your punk side by wearing a necklace with spikes and stones. It’s edgy and very chic especially when worn with a linen dress for summer.

2. Layered Pendants – Layering pendants is a very bohemian trend. This trend has been spotted at all fashion weeks across the globe. Wear turquoise and citrine coloured pendants with a white cotton midi dress to be summer ready. Another way to be a gypsy goddess is to wear a few pendant necklaces with a pair of jeans and a casual shirt.

3. Tassel Earrings – Tassels are trending on all runways the world over. An easy and quick way to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe is to own a pair of tassel earrings. There are a few ways that you can flaunt tassel earrings. You can pair them with a pair of denim shorts and a funky tie and dye T-shirt to chill out at a pool party this summer. Another way to wear the tassel trend is to wear the earrings with a floral printed maxi dress for a summer party. Tassels for me mean freedom and summer is the perfect season to have fun with them.

4. Bold Blue Rings – Blue is the trendiest colour of the season. So why not buy a few bold rings in shades of blue? Turquoise, aqua and indigo are all fashionable colours right now. Wear a bold ring with a chikankari kurta and leggings for a day out with your family. Or wear these rings with a shift dress in navy or white for a movie date with your special someone.

5. Hand Harness – Besides rings, hand harnesses or haathphools are funky and fun. You’ll be insta-cool if spotted wearing a hand harness. There are a variety of haathphools that you can wear. A simple chain link hand harness worn with ripped jeans is a huge trend this season. An ethnic hand harness with a full-length skirt and a crop top will make you stand out in a crowd. Go out there and have fun experimenting with hand harnesses!

Remember to have fun while staying stylish!

Whats hot for the party season?
Its that time of the year when everyday there is a party to go to. Each one of us is in a celebratory mood, eager to meet our friends and family who have come home for the holidays from near and far.The hottest trends at the moment are fringes and shimmer. Shimmer is ubiquitous for dinner parties. Its glamorous and brings out the diva in you. A long gold lame maxi dress is sure to make you feel like a showstopper in a fashion show. Tall women look best in a maxi. If you’re the petite type of woman, the best type of dress to wear is a short one that reaches until just above your knees. Accessorize it with a gold colored belt at your waist and voila, you have upped your style quotient. To complete the look, wear a pair of glittering gold stilletos. It is the party season after all, so be bold and own your style. On the contrary, if you’re the kind of woman who likes to play it safe but would also like to be fashionable, carry a glittering metallic evening bag in gold or silver. For a more traditional occasion, one can always wear a chiffon sari and pair it with a sequinned blouse. The blouse lends instant character to the otherwise plain sari and will dress up the whole outfit.
Now lets talk about the other trend on the runway – the fringe. There is something about the fringe look that shouts casual luxury! The easiest way to own the fringe look is to flaunt it with accessories. A sling bag with fringe detail is the “in” thing and the easiest way to stay trendy. The brands that I really like are Zara and Rebecca Minkoff.
Another way to stay trendy, is to wear a pair of fringe gold colored earrings with your little black dress, popularly known as the LBD. Depending on the occassion, you could wear the earrings even with a lovely kancheepurarm sari. A mix of the traditional and contemporary will most definitely make people stop, take notice and compliment you. If you’d like to be a tad bit bolder, experiment with fringe detailed shoes. The exquisitely detailed and dramatic fringe detailing on your pair of stilettos is sure to draw all eyes to your feet. Schutz and Chloe are well known luxury brands for their fringed stilettos. Its okay once in a while to splurge on shoes. A word of caution, these stilettos are definitely not for the faint hearted.
My favourite way to flaunt the fringe look, is to wear a leather jacket with fringe trimmings over my favorite pair of blue denims and boots. It keeps me comfortable and stylish at the same time. A popular belief is that in order to keep up with the latest fashion trends one has to sacrifice comfort. I disagree! Its picking what works for you and your body type that makes you truly stylish.

The Blogs of the Week!

Fashion, art, architecture appeal to me. Here are the blogs that I personally like/follow for all the good things in life.A blog, as you all know, is a space where a blogger jots down his/her opinions/thoughts/tips on fashion, lifestyle, food and all things sundry!I recently built a house and I’m one of those people who is convinced that the house should be furnished slowly. I believed that I needed to let the house grow and take shape with me and the kind of a person that I am. I’m bored easily. So it helps to take it slow, that way I don’t end up with a statement piece that I might hate in a few weeks time.  So one fairly free weekend I made up my mind to look for furniture and I scoured the internet. But the thing about the internet is that it offers you a vast amount of options that you’re lost before you can even begin. During this endless search of the “right” stores I stumbled upon this gem of a site called littleblackbookdelhi.com – LBBD in short! And what a find it was. The site has all the cool things to do in Delhi and the “in” places to eat, drink, party and catch shows. And best of all LBBD tells you those awesome places to shop at be it clothes, accessories, furniture, pickles et all.  Of late, LBBD has started curating bazaars at popular shopping haunts of Delhi. In the third week of August I happened to be in Delhi and of course I looked up LBBD to see what’s going on in the capital. There was an artisan’s bazaar that LBBD had helped curate at Ogaan in Haus Khaz Village. It was a beautiful event featuring emerging accessory designers from in and around Delhi. I particularly liked Fooljhadi, Square Loop and Malleka. Each of these accessory designers have a very distinct design aesthete. Fooljhadi has a young, fun, Indian kitschy vibe with its jewellery. Square Loop, a bag brand for the most part is minimal. Malleka, I fell in love with its statement, bold and edgy designs.  It also showcased Raw Mango sarees and Khavita Bhartia’s tunics and her modern ethnic bags. The best thing about LBBD is that it always has a little bit of everything for everyone. As an outsider it allows you a glimpse of all the wonderful things that Delhi has to offer. Its the go-to site for everyone planning to visit Delhi. For fashion particularly, I find that I keep going back to giasaysthat.comakanksharedhu.com and popxo.com. At giasaysthat I like her posts on the places where you can find deals and hunt for bargains and stay stylish with your bargain buys. Now who doesn’t love a bargain? Also, her take on Lakme Fashion Week 2014 is interesting and original. akanksharedhu.com  focuses on make up, skin care and the current season’s style trends. I especially like her posts on make up trends of the season. Akanksha’s pictures on her blog are vivid and gives you an instant connect with the blogger. Almost always, the trends here are something that I would definitely try popxo.com is a girly, young fashionable blog where guest bloggers write about fashion and lifestyle. Its a blog that usually gives me a boost of energy. So usually its one of the first things that I like to see in the morning before I start work.
